We visited Hmong Leng, a minority village with some of our Chinese colleagues. It was indeed a beautiful experience. As we were lined up to enter this home, the head of the household held a white bowl filled with what appeared to be water. Everyone was to take a drink, their way of welcoming you into their home. As we got closer I could tell it wasn’t water as I could smell alcohol. I said to my husband, “That is alcohol.” He said to one of our Chinese colleague’s, “We will not drink this.” To which she replied, “You must, you will offend them.” He was inspired to say to the man, “I am a holy man.” This he understood.
